DGSF gets seat on Older Peoples Consultative Forum

AGM held on 23rd June 2010
Dumfries & Galloway Seniors Forum (formerly elderly Forum) hosted its 21st Annual General Meeting in St. George’s Church Hall, Dumfries. Over 70 members met to hear of the continuing activities and future plans of the organisation.
Founder member Mrs. A. Thomas cut a celebration birthday cake to commemorate the occasion.
In the first part of the day, members were able to walk round a collection of information stands staffed by partner agencies , including DGHP, D & G Fire & Rescue Service, Independent Living Support and Tax Help for Older People. One display told of what the Forum currently does for its members, namely
- Representation at local and national level
- Information and referral to partner agencies
- Engaging local members in various local activities.
After lunch, Dr. Derek Cox, Director of Public Health NHS D&G, was the keynote speaker and gave a very informative address on the challenges and opportunities facing older people as demographics change and new technologies become available. Taking initiatives in what you want for quality of life is going to be crucial.
Mr. Frank Smith was elected as Chair, Mr. Hugh D Wilson as Vice-Chair. The remainder of the Executive will comprise returning members Messrs Alastair Macdonald, and Alan Sidaway, and newly elected members Messrs Frank MacGregor and John White.
